Czech politicians acknowledge need for incentives (2009-07-13)

Czech politicians from opposite sides of the political divide are showing new support for the Czech film industry. Speaking on a July 5 talkshow broadcast by Czech Television, Mirek Topolanek of the center-right Civic Democrats and Vitezslav Jandak of the center-left Social Democrats both agreed that the next government should introduce incentives for filming in the Czech Republic.

Location Karlovy Vary (2009-07-01)

Karlovy Vary is the largest and best known spa city in the Czech Republic. It was founded in the 14th century by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, whom legend credits with the discovery of its thermal springs. The West Bohemian spa became a popular retreat for the wealthy as early as the 16th century.

Filmmakers from Bavaria and Bohemia experience the End of the Cold War (2009-06-22)

Czech and German filmmakers spent the day together June 10, visiting sites on both sides of the Czech-German border associated with the Cold War.

More than 40 film professionals from both countries took part in the End of the Cold War Locations Tour, organized the FFF Film Commission Bayern in cooperation with the Czech Film Commission. The primary destinations of the tour were military bases in Čerchov, Czech Republic and Hoher Bogen, Germany.

Q&A with producer Jesse Fryckman from the Finnish production company Bronson Club. The company has been established to create a home for the best of the new generation of filmmakers and to bring edgy and personal low budget features into international marketplace. The founders of Bronson Club are Jesse Fryckman and Tero Kaukomaa, whose credits include Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier, Jade Warrior by AJ Annila and Man's Job by Aleksi Salmenperä.

The Czech Film Commission visited the filming of the French period film Faubourg 36 on the set in Prague-Letňany. Here, in one of the halls, the sets of the “Chansonia” theatre, in which and around which the film’s story takes place, have been built.

Q&A with Danish producer Morten Kaufman (2007-04-12)

Q&A with Danish producer Morten Kaufman from the production company Nimbus Film Productions, which is one of the major players in Danish cinema and is celebrated for several Dogme films (especially Festen/The Celebration by Thomas Vinterberg, 1998).

We caught up with Morten Kaufman on the set of the film Flame & Citron (budget of approx. EUR 6.3 million), which is being shot partly in locations and studios in and nearby Prague. The story is based on real events and is set in 1944 during the German occupation of Denmark.

The largest sound stage in Europe has risen at Barrandov (2006-12-11, Press release)

As of today, Prague has the largest film stage in all of Europe. A gala opening will be held this evening for the complex of three new sound stages, which will serve as a bouncing board to the next phase of successful development for Barrandov Studios.  Construction of the complex of three soundproof stages was started this spring and cost more than 100 million Czech crowns.

Hostel Part II will pick up exactly where the last one left off, and will follow three American girls who are studying for a semester in Italy. Sony will be making the film a major release all around the globe next spring. Quentin Tarantino is back as executive producer.

Czech study calls for 12.5% tax rebate on film productions (2006-05-10)

A 2005 study released May 9 by the Czech Ministry of Culture calls for the creation of a 12.5% tax rebate for productions filmed in the Republic and the creation of a national body to oversee a comprehensive strategy to promote domestic films abroad and boost the country as a destination for foreign productions.

Stillking Films to co-produce the new James Bond (2005-10-18, Press release)

The international film production company Stillking Films closed the co-production deal with EON Productions on the 21st 007 Screen Adventure called Casino Royale to shoot in the Czech Republic. Matthew Stillman and David Minkowski of Stillking Films act as local co-producers. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production begins shooting in January 2006 and is due for release worldwide on November 17, 2006. Most of the film will be shot in the Czech Republic with additional photography in the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

Czech film industry to have prevalent - albeit "indirect" - showing at the 62nd annual Venice Film Festival (2005-08-31)

Historical sights of the Czech Republic serve as a home to THE ILLUSIONIST (2005-04-29)

Principal photography on Bull's Eye Entertainment's movie The Illusionist started at the beginning of April in Prague. The nine week shoot will also take place in such historical Czech towns as Dobříš, Konopiště, Tábor and Český Krumlov, all known for their splendid castles or richly decorated theater halls. The extraordinary architecture and preserved heritage of the Czech Republic offer the perfect locations for this stylish screen adaptation of Steven Millhauser's story „Eisenheim The Illusionist“ set in early 1900's Vienna.
