sets & costumes
Creativity runs deep in Czech filmmaking, and not just among directors and cinematographers. Our designers and craftsmen are some of the best you'll find anywhere and have carried out the vision of such production designers at Jean Rabasse, Allan Starski and Peter Lamont.
Czech crews have built stage sets for Casino Royale, both Chronicle of Narnia films and Hannibal Rising. Our craftsmen have built Victorian London for Oliver Twist and From Hell, historic villages for Solomon Kane, The Brothers Grimm, and Van Helsing; contemporaryBrooklyn for Babylon A.D.; and a fabulous castle for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
And these sets are much more than just flat facades. Czech skills extend beyond carpentry and painting to stone masonry, blacksmithing, woodworking and upholstery. And the demand comes from outside the country as well.
We have an enormous store of props and costumes ready to be used. Barrandov's collection of period clothing is one of the largest in Europe, and our local tailors can adapt any existing piece and create entirely new wardrobes on demand — both here in the Czech Republic and abroad. The company supplied costumes for Fox's adventure Eragon, shot in Hungary, and the award-winning television series The Tudors, shot in Ireland.
There are also thousands pieces of historical furniture, firearms and other weapons, and hundreds of historical vehicles — horse-drawn and motor, military and civilian. Like the costumes, the props can be loaned to productions outside the Czech Republic, or built to suit the demands of the production. When the producers of Quantum Of Solace needed furniture for their production, they remembered the work Czechs did on Casino Royale and ordered the pieces they needed to be built in Prague and shipped to England.
