Nil Gaup’s holiday adventure Journey to the Christmas Star has beat out James Bond thriller Skyfall at the Norwegian box office, Screen International reports.
The Norwegian-Czech-German co-production opened November 9 on 225 screens in Norway, drawing 72,400 admissions its opening weekend. Skyfall had 71,899 admissions.
Production took place mainly in the Czech Republic. Gaup worked with Czech line production company Sirena Film on the shoot at Pernstejn and other Czech locations. The $5m production received a 20% rebate from the Film Industry Support Programme for qualifying portions of its Czech spend.
Sola Media has sold the film to 74 territories, Screen reports.
