Czech Film Commission Promotional Activities Abroad

At the Czech Film Commission, we have been showing the world that the Czech Republic is an excellent destination for audiovisual production for many years. Our goal is to showcase the domestic infrastructure, the wide range of crew professionals, the service facilities, the diverse locations, and the other advantages that productions have here - including the production incentives.

The Czech Film Commission’s primary goal is to provide systematic support for the Czech audiovisual industry infrastructure, encompassing crew professions and service providers, as well as the conditions for production realization in the Czech Republic. Since the introduction of production incentives in 2010, our activities have been closely linked to their provision, with the competitiveness of the incentive system being essential for successfully attracting foreign productions. CFCom actively communicates with producers, studios, platforms, location scouts, managers, and financial advisors, purposefully building relationships with new generations of filmmakers to support the growth of local spending and employment in the Czech audiovisual sector.

The CFCom's Participation in International Networks

CFCom represents the Czech Republic in the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), where we participate in educational events, including AFCI Week and Cineposium. We were also instrumental in the founding of the European Film Commission Network (EUFCN), where we were active on the board (CFCom Head Pavlína Žipková served as the organization's president for two years).

Our Commercial Diplomatic Agenda (USA)

The primary target market for the Czech Film Commission's activities is Los Angeles. Despite the vital challenges of recent years, Hollywood remains the leading producer of films and series with the highest budgets. CFCom's activities in Hollywood include not only participation in markets and events but also a commercial diplomatic agenda, for which we regularly cooperate with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles. This includes extraordinary events, such as this year's Academy Award campaign to support the nomination of Czech set decorator Beatrice Brentnerová. She was nominated for the American feature film Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers, which, except for a few days, was filmed entirely in the Czech Republic. The Czech Film Commission, together with the Consulate General in Los Angeles, organized a gala reception in honor of the nominee. In addition to Czech representatives (CEO of the Czech Audiovisual Fund Helena Bezděk Fraňková, CEO of Barrandov Studio Petr Tichý, and Czech members of the Nosferatu film crew), representatives of the LA film industry also attended.

Another similar activity was the initiation and co-organization of a celebration for the nominations of four Czechs for an Academy Award for the film All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), which was shot in the Czech Republic. The nominees were Linda Eisenhamerová (Makeup), Viktor Prášil (Sound), Kamil Jafar (Special Effects), and Viktor Müller (Visual Effects). In honor of the nominated filmmakers, the CFCom organized a reception in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic and Barrandov Studio. It also secured sponsorship and coordinated media output in conjunction with Czech and foreign media. The event, held at the former exile villa Aurora of writer Lion Feuchtwanger in Pacific Palisades, was also supported by the Consulates General of Germany and Austria, and was attended by German Minister of Culture Claudia Roth and Czech Deputy Minister of Culture Michal Šašek.

Where Can You Meet Us?

We regularly attend the most important international film markets, festivals, and conferences, where we meet with producers, location managers, and other industry professionals. You can find us at the European Film Market in Berlin, the Marché du Film in Cannes, the Focus London production market, the American Film Market in Los Angeles, AFCI Week, and the Cineposium conference.

Since 2025, following the transformation of the Czech Audiovisual Fund, we have begun exploring new opportunities, including the Shooting Locations Marketplace in Spain. In 2026, we plan to launch promotional campaigns in Asia, specifically by returning to the IIFTC exhibition pavilion in Mumbai and participating in FilmArt in Hong Kong for the first time. In the future, we also plan promotional activities with the Busan (South Korea) IFF.

Each foreign event includes a marketing campaign on our social networks, as well as in cooperation with individual markets and professional periodicals, through various print, online, and other promotional channels offered by marketing agencies. The evaluation of foreign missions takes place after each event.

Overview of the Missions Attended by the Czech Film Commission:

AFCI Week (Los Angeles, USA)
A professional conference organized by the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). Its program connects member commissions with Hollywood studios, mini-majors, independent producers, and other leaders in the audiovisual industry. The conference agenda features training sessions, discussions, and lectures on the development of new projects and solutions for key current topics in the AV industry. AFCI Week is followed by a business and diplomatic agenda (trade missions, individual meetings at studios and with producers for the purpose of presenting the Czech Republic).

AFM (Los Angeles, USA)
The American Film Market (AFM) is one of the largest and oldest global film markets, founded in 1971. Each year, deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars are concluded here, and the market is attended by more than 8,000 film professionals from over 70 countries worldwide. It is held under the auspices of the Independent Film & Television Alliance. The event also includes the Location Expo, which offers opportunities for exhibition displays.

Cineposium (Held biennially, in a rotating international location)
The Cineposium conference is hosted by the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). Through seminars, lectures, workshops, and panel discussions with producers, the program is customized for film commission personnel. Its purpose is to provide continuous professional training, keep staff informed about industry trends, and highlight current developments in the audiovisual sector. Cineposium is organized by a different host film commission each time. This serves to connect the host country's film producers, AFCI member commissions, and invited representatives from Hollywood studios and production companies.

Focus London (London, Great Britain)
Focus London is a location and production exhibition trade show, the only one of its kind in Europe. The Czech Film Commission presents the Czech Republic here as an advantageous location for audiovisual production, either through an exhibition stand or by participating as a delegation at the accompanying conference. Czech regional film offices also attend selected annual events. The trade show has been organized since 2015 by The Location Guide, a company that operates a renowned online database of contacts and information from the film industry (www.thelocationguide.com).

Shooting Locations Marketplace (Valladolid, Spain)
An exhibition and conference platform that connects national and regional film commissions with location managers and producers from all over the world, without the need for an exhibition pavilion. Since its inception in 2020, it has globally established itself among film professionals. CFCom first participated in 2025.

IIFTC India (Mumbai, India)
The India International Film Tourism Convention is India's leading production, location, and film trade show. In 2011 and 2018, the Czech Film Commission participated in cooperation within the framework of the economic diplomacy project PROPED, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the CzechTourism agency. In 2026, it will participate under the umbrella of the joint stand of EUFCN (European Film Commissions Network).

FilmArt (Hong Kong, China)
The Hong Kong International Film and TV Market, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is Asia's leading production and film trade show. The Czech Film Commission will participate for the first time in 2026.

Berlinale IFF & European Film Market (Berlin, Germany)
At the International Film Festival and Film Market in Berlin, we present the Czech Republic as an ideal filming destination. We do this through individual meetings with producers, directors, and other foreign filmmakers within the framework of the Central European Cinema stand, organized by the Czech Film Center. We participate in the industry program of the EFM, as well as the programs organized by the European Film Commission Network (EUFCN) and the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI).

Cannes IFF & Marché du Film (Cannes, France)
The Czech Film Commission has participated in the Marché du Film since 2005, utilizing the facilities of the pavilion organized by colleagues from the Czech Film Center. Meetings are held at the market with producers interested in filming or post-production in the Czech Republic. The activities include participation in the specialized side program and in programs organized by the European Film Commission Network (EUFCN) and the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI).
